Sonam Kapoor may be just two films old, but she is choosy about her roles and has drafted strict guidelines for herself to sign movies. The young actress is, however, willing to make exceptions if the man opposite her happens to be Robert De Niro or Shah Rukh Khan.
"Well, why would one actually ask questions if paired opposite Robert De Niro?" asks Sonam with a mischievous smile. "You should consider yourself plain fortunate to just share a common frame with him. In fact, I will be happy to even walk past a frame featuring him. No questions asked. Period."
Sonam teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor in her debut vehicle "Saawariya" and she was seen with Abhishek Bachchan in her second film "Dilli 6". She is now looking forward to a movie with superstar Shah Rukh.
"He is another man for whom I will be so very willing to ignore my rule book. I would be more than happy to go ahead and sign a film if Shah Rukh happens to be my hero, " says Sonam, a self-confessed Shah Rukh fan.
"There are exceptions that one makes about the size and content of the role when it comes to working with legendary actors; De Niro and Shah Rukh just fit the bill, " she said.
However, when it comes to working on films with anyone lesser, Sonam certainly has her do's and don'ts in place.
"I don't intend to do films where all I am required to do is to dance in four songs and enact a couple of emotional scenes. By no means am I looking at that kind of cinema, " she said.
Though the formal announcement of her next film is yet to take place, reports are that Sonam's next will be for her dad's production house. The film is called "Ayesha" and is based on Jane Austen's novel "Emma".
According to industry sources, Sonam will be making a complete about turn from her "Saawariya" and "Delhi 6" image and take on a completely new ultra-chic avtar. The film will feature Abhay Deol along with newcomer Arunodoy Singh, who will soon make his debut with "Sikandar".
Sonam and Imran Khan are meanwhile reportedly being considered by Kunal Kohli for his next film that would be directed by his assistant Danish Aslam. However, confirmation is still awaited around this young love story.
The entire music video from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions featuring young A-listers from Bollywood asking the young in India to vote was put together in two days flat.
“And that included Salim (of Salim-Suleiman)’s background music, ” said Karan proudly.
On Thursday stars beginning with Abhishek Bachchan and Karan Johar himself, trooped into the studio to have their say on camera.
Karan was delighted. “I had to do nothing except pick up the phone and ask everyone to come and record their message for the young. I was surprised by how readily and quickly they took time off from their busy schedules for this public-interest broadcast.”
And now Karan Johar has discovered a new passion. He wants to now produce informative profit-free short films for television that would subscribe ways to achieve an improvement in the quality of our life.
Karan Johar’s entire music video urging the youngsters of the country to vote was put together in two days.
And considering it stars every 32-minus A-lister from Kareena Kapoor to Abhishek Bachchan, that’s no mean achievement.
“The credit for the music video must go to Imran Khan, ” says Karan Johar who has been shooting non-stop with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol for My Name Is Khan.
“I had gone to meet Imran for a film when he brought up the idea of a video on voting. His enthusiasm rubbed off on me. I got together with a politician friend Mukul Deora, called up my writer-friend Niranjan Iyenger to write the script and asked my Dostana director and friend Tarun Mansukhani to direct it. And we were ready.”
Karan will now be looking at other public-interest films where he can use his connections in Bollywood for purposes other than entertainment.
“The vote-youth video made me realize the importance of reaching out to the public.
Considering we’re going through a global economic recession and other major problems it is very important for the young to be mobilized into casting their votes to elect correct leaders. Similarly there’re other areas where I think my contacts could come in handy.”

Ram Gopal Varma Even as Rann is currently being shot across Mumbai and Delhi, the film's director Ram Gopal Varma is incorporating changes in the script and cast members. As a result, Raima Sen has been shown the door while Neetu Chandra has stepped in as her replacement. The reason given? Raima didn't suit the part.
Confirms Ram Gopal Varma, "The character that was originally conceived went through changes. As a result the present version doesn't suit Raima. This is why Neetu has been roped in."
As per the original script, Raima was to play the part of Yasmin Hussain, an ex-model, who watches TV, reads gossip columns, and for most part, takes everything that is dished out to her, at face value. Someone who does not understand the intricacies of power games, she isn't quite clever but not really innocent either.
However, with the characterization going through a change, it has to be seen how exactly Neetu is required to play her part.
For Raima Sen though, an exit from a prestigious project like Rann couldn't have come at a worst time. She has been a part of five major flops in a row (Mere Khawon Mein Jo Aaye, C Kkompany, Mukhbiir, Manorama - Six Feet Under and Yatra) with only consolation in the form of Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd which had released two years ago.
No wonder, she has been left shell shocked after the news of her being replaced by the film maker was broken to her.
As for Neetu Chandra, an entry into a big project like Rann couldn't have come at a better time. While she was unavailable for comment, an industry follower comments that being a part of Rann is indeed a big moment for her.
Ram Gopal Varma "She is a relatively new entrant but look at the film makers she has managed to work with in such a short duration", he says, "Having names like Madhur Bhandarkar (Traffic Signal), Priyadarshan (Garam Masala), Dibakar Banerjee (Oye Lucky Lucky Oye), Rahul Dholakia (Mumbai Cutting) and Vipul Shah (untitled) in your profile is not a small deal."
With Rann, Neetu makes further progress in the big league as she gets to rub shoulders with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan in the film.
Moreover, yet again she will be a part of a film that stars Parsh Rawal in a major role. Earlier, Neetu and Paresh Rawal have come together in Garam Masala, One Two Three, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye while their Kusar Prasad Ka Bhoot will be released as well.
Now in Rann, she has a major role to play which also includes a sensual dance number that would require liberal doses of skin show. Though reports are yet to be confirmed, this very fact is said to be the reason behind her entry and Raima's ouster from the biggie.
Well, if Neetu's recent photo shoots are anything to go by; one can definitely expect her to sizzle the screen in Rann. Even before signing for Rann, Neetu had made her stand clear when it came to exposing for screen.
"I have worn swimsuit in my very first film [Garam Masala] so I don't consider skin show as a big deal", she had said, "I am quite comfortable with my body and I believe that for a woman, her curves and curls should be in the right place.
I can be versatile as required by the situation & the setting and can get into the skin of any character that film makers could think of. If required, I can play a girl next door and give me a platform and I would be your sexy next door girl."
In this regard, Ram Gopal Varma has indeed got his woman for Rann where Neetu's character does demand sensuous overtones. Now it has to be seen whether with Rann, Neetu does manage to justify the confidence that has been shown in her by the film maker.
Also starring Ritesh Deshmukh, Gul Panag, Mohnish Behl, Sudeep, Rajat Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav as the principal protagonists, Rann is a Madhu Ghajini Mantena production and is expected to arrive before the close of 2009.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty will probably tie the knot with beau Raj Kundra in October this year, the Daily Mail online reported Sunday.
The couple have set a tentative date in October and plan to have a traditional ceremony in India, the report said.
"I have very traditional views of marriage. I've seen my parents maintain a 35-year marriage and I really believe marriages are made in heaven. I've always said that the day I decide to tie the knot it is going to be for good, " Shilpa said.
"I have often wondered who the right person would be and I've come to realise that for me it is Raj. I'm completely sure he is my soul mate, " she added.
Kundra seems as excited about the prospect of marriage as Shilpa.
"I have spoken to Shilpa's parents and we are doing it the Indian way. In India, you don't get engaged until just before the wedding, so I didn't go down on one knee to her or anything like that. But we have definitely set a date for this year, " he said.
The couple have been together for two years. They are yet to make an official announcement out of respect for British reality TV star Jade Goody, who passed away March 22. She had appeared with Shilpa on "Celebrity Big Brother", sparking an international racism row.
The actress, 33, recently bought a 5 million pound house in Weybridge, Surrey with Kundra. The house has seven bedrooms.
Kundra, a 34-year-old millionaire, owns a Dubai-based business and deals in the trading of precious stones and metals.
He has also started to help Shilpa manage her career and is believed to be behind her decision last month to invest 8 million pounds in the cricket team Rajasthan Royals, who were last year's Indian Premier League winners.

Rakhi Sawant is having the time of her life. And, no she’s not indulging in any catfight or running somebody down with her acid tongue at the moment.
She’s chasing and doing some flirting and that also with Bollwood’s once upon a time queen Rani Mukerji. But it’s only for reel life.
Just like the popular song, ‘girls just wanna have fun’ Rakhi had her share of fun as she shot for the song for the Yash Raj film ‘Haddipa’.
‘Hadippa’, directed by Anurag Singh, has been in the making for a while now and has Rani and Shahid in the lead. Rani masquerades as a man to play a part in the local cricket team.
Rakhi’s song is an item-cum-funny song for a particular situation with Rani, where she tries to woo Rani who is in the disguise of a Sardar boy. Rakhi chases Rani and openly declares her love.
Hence the picturisation has turned out to be very funny.

Rakhi shot the song at Yashraj Studios few days back and sources say that the song is not raunchy like any of her previous numbers but with a dash of comic element.
Even Rakhi’s last item song ‘Dekhta Hai Tu Kya’ in ‘Krazzy 4’ was funny as cleanliness freak Irrfan Khan wanted to wipe off a scorpion tattoo from Rakhi’s waist.
Ummm…looks like raunchy Rakhi is looking at a change of image.
She was funny in ‘Bigg Boss’.
Then she had a stint with comedy on TV as a host on her chat show, ‘The Rakhi Sawant Show’, participated in the Star Plus comedy show ‘Arre Diwano Mujhe Pehchano’ along with celebs like Gulshan Grover, Mandira Bedi, Divya Dutta and Mahesh Manjrekar etc.
And we the people too prefer the comic Rakhi over the ‘trying too hard to be sexy’ Rakhi any day We sure aren’t complaining.

Akshay Kumar hurt himself badly on Wednesday morning while working out at his personal gym situated at his bungalow in Karjat.
We spoke to our source from sets,
"Akshayji has been shooting for a week now. He was at his bungalow in Karjat when the accident happened. He was doing pull-ups on the bar when the rod broke. He injured his hand and hurt his back. “
Further our source told us, ”when Vipulji heard this, he rushed to his house and was stunned to see Akki bleeding and decided to cancel the shoot but every body knows how professional is Akki. He insisted that the show must go on.
Akshay came back to Mumbai in the evening and was back in Karjat on Thursday to resume shooting. He was treated right there and then in Mumbai. Now he's able to move around as he resumed shoot from yesterday."
This is the same bungalow in Karjat that filmmaker Vipul Shah has constructed for Akshay and his family, while he shoots for Vipul's next, titled Action Replay with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
This is not the first time that Akki is injured as in 2008 Akshay Kumar was injured while he was shooting under 75ft deep water for Blue in Bahamas.
In 2007, Akshay banged his head against a wooden cabinet during the shooting of Bhagam Bhaag in Filmistan Studios in Mumbai. In 2006, Akki burnt his right foot while doing a stunt for a Thums Up commercial in Cape Town, South Africa.
Take care Akki and his next release is 8 by 10 Tasveer which is releasing on 3rd Apirl.

Everybody knows that SRK had injured his shoulder and was taking rest and after taking rest for more then a month he is back to shoot for Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan and attending meetings for IPL.
We spoke to our source close to the film.
“He has resumed the shooting of his best friend Karan Johar’s next venture, ‘My Name Is Khan’ opposite Kajol.
Shahrukh Khan has undergone shoulder surgery and doctors have advised him rest for minimum for four months but against doctor’s advice, he has resumed shooting after a short gap. He has been warned by the doctors but yet he is urging to shoot”
But about the precautions SRK ensures that he will shoot only light scenes that will not put much stress on his shoulder. Since his shoulder is not properly healed, SRK takes painkillers before shooting and in between, does physical exercises for his shoulder, which are prescribed by his doctors.
About the healing of his shoulder his closed source told us, ”his arm will take another four to five months to make well fully. He will stay away from any stunts for at least six months or may be more. Everything depends on how his shoulder heals.”
In spite of shoulder surgery, Shahrukh did not stay away from the limelight and made appearance in Filmfare events and even actively took part in the IPL meeting which happened last Sunday at office.

Kangana is getting ready for the biggest challenge of her career. She’ll be playing whom she considers the most beautiful woman in the history of Indian cinema.
It’s a thought that flatters and terrifies her. Kangana is afraid she may not look beautiful enough on screen.
“I’ve never thought of myself as beautiful. In fact I’ve always suffered from the low-est self esteem. Till recently I’d look at my pictures and cringe.
I still have the pictures from my first portfolio I got done in Chandigarh. They remind me of how ugly I can look. And to now play Madhubala in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. How will I do it?”
Kangana is so petrified at the prospect she has stopped looking into the mirror completely.
Kangana laughs when people tell her playing the traumatized mistress of the underworld don would be a cakewalk for her.
“I’m proud of my so-called territory as an actress. If playing traumatized women is my territory then I’m glad. Because I know I’m good at it.”
The challenge in Once Upon A Time… is the physicality. “Madhubala’s role is not as tragic as my other roles. It’s basically a very tender romance between this really funny don (played by Ajay Devgan) and this female superstar who can’t understand his personality.
How will I manage to play the most beautiful woman that Indian cinema has ever seen? My characters have always had a dark and light side. And this one is no exception. But the challenge for me is to look almost ethereally beautiful, like Madhubala. How will I manage that?”
Kangana intends to undergo a complete transformation of look and appearance. She has already started watching DVDs of Madhubala’s films very carefully. “ I won’t copy her. But I want to get into her mind and heartspace.”

She came, she saw (or is it 'showed'), she conquered! We are indeed talking about the one and only Mallika Sherawat.
After having won everyone's hearts alike with her superlative performance in Murder, Mallika went onto become one of Bollywood's most prized and desirable possession, a tag that she carries with her till today, with elan!
She took full advantage of the international attention she got after the small role in Jackie Chan’s ‘The Myth’. She tried to change her image with ‘Pyar Ke Side Effects’ and succeeded to an extent. But that was it.
Two of her more recent movies ‘Ugly aur Pagli’ and ‘Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam’ failed badly. But she’s not ready to give up yet.
Actresses she considers competition like Ash are still going strong. Plus there’s the rise of upstarts like Freida Pinto who came out of no where and getting loads of attention and money, thanks to ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. We can sense Madame M fuming with jealousy.
But for those who feel that Mallika has done the great vanishing trick after her last release Welcome, here's some news that will actually act as some fragrance!
Well, the news is that the international brand 'Playboy' (not the magazine, but the perfume) has been rumored to have roped in Madame Mallika for its launch in India, which should happen anytime mid-April.
Although it's not clear as to whether she will be endorsing the brand or be merely inaugurating the launch party, one thing is for sure, that not just the 'Playboy' perfume will be a huge sellout, but also will garner lots of bunny points for itself. What say, Mallika!
Bad Boy Salman Khan might run into another failure in his relationship. And if sources are to be believed Salman Khan has slapped Katrina kaif over a small tiff. Is Salman Khan behaving the same way he did with Aishwariya Rai? Is Possessiveness the issue or there is another side to this problem? As per a Goa Local Newspaper, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar were shooting in Goa. Sallu Bhai feeling insecure about Kaif with Akki, bumped into the Shooting Sets and had tiff with Katrina. Probably Salman Khan has asked Katrina not to work with Akshay Kumar. But what Salman should know if that Katrina has given almost all her hits with Khiladi Number 1.
This isn’t the first time Salman has slapped Katrina. Few years back, a eye witness accounts to a Mumbai Local Newspaper that Kat and Sallu were sitting in a coffee shop. And suddenly Salman stood up and slapped Katrina. Though Katrina later refused to acknowledge that event!
What is ailing Salman in the relationship? It is said Salman is not happy with Katrina’s closeness with her co-stars. Recently he bumped into the sets of Rajneeti because of the rumours of closeness between Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. Before that Salman was not happy with Katrina’s closeness with Akshay Kumar. So much was the fear that Katrina on a chat show said she is not a close friend with Akki! So is insecurity of loosing Katrina causing problems in relationship? Is it the age factor?
Salman earlier had similar in-security problems with Ash, the relationship that run for three years. Salman is said to have barged into sets of Aishwariya, reportedly verbally abused her in front of co-actors, which costed her films and also made her depressed.
We can just hope that Salman learns from his past relationship and ensures a good healthy relationship, else we will see another failed relationship in Bollywood!

What’s up with Divya Dutta?
The actress who’s played decent character roles in the past suddenly decided to glam up in ‘You, Me aur Hum’. More recently in ‘Delhi 6’ she played the interesting character of ‘Jalebi’.
Now she’s cozying up to a female actor on screen in the film ‘Monica’ and is taking the challenge head on. The movie is about two struggling and vulnerable women who find solace in each other.
Before Divya many actresses had turned it down simply because they did not want to do the lesbian scene. In the past only actresses like Nandita Das and Shabana Azmi in ‘Fire’ and Amrita Arora and Isha Koppikar in ‘Girlfriend’ have shown some guts.
By the way, it wasn’t all that easy for Divya too as she was initially at a loss when she was told that she has a lesbian scene with co-star Kitu Gidwani.
But like a true blue professional she decided to do the scene.
The actress told a website that she approached the scene very professionally and discussed it with Kitu before the shoot. She really prepared herself mentally too for the same.
She’s said, “I mentally prepared myself. I was just an actor playing a character.”
Apparently, the scene turned out very well, shot aesthetically and isn’t vulgar or titillating.
Let’s wait and watch to see if it gives Divya a career makeover or not.
Last summer Abbas Tyrewala’s ‘Jaane Tu…Yaa Jaane Na’ was a youth blockbuster.
Imran Khan became an instant hit and it also revived the career of Genelia D’Souza who had been struggling for a while to make a mark in Bollywood and had shifted to the South.
Now the movie that made a mark is coming back with a sequel and Abbas Tyrewala has revealed the details of the sequel too.
You may recall that ‘Jaane Tu’ had a quintessential Bollywood style climax with a happy ending. The buzz is that the story now will focus on the characters of Imran and Genelia, Jai and Aditi, and the troubles they now face in their married life.
Genelia who has movies like ‘It's My Life’ with Harman Baweja, ‘Life Partner’ with Fardeen Khan and ‘Hook Ya Crook’ with John Abraham has admitted that the movie changed her career and it would be nice to reunite with the whole team.
Abbas Tyrewala is currently working on his the film titled 1-800 Love which has his wife Paakhi opposite John Abraham and will then shift to the ‘Jaane Tu’ sequel.
Now whether the movie repeats the glory of ‘Jaane Tu’ or not is another story altogether.
Actress Mahie Gill, who impressed audiences with her mature performance in "Dev D" and "Gulaal", said she will be seen in glamorous roles in her forthcoming films.
"As an actor I want to do all kinds of roles and work in different genre of films. 'Dev D' was a fantastic appearance while 'Gulaal' did see me in a semi-glam avtar as I played a mistress-cum-mujra dancer who was a huge fan of Tabu. However, none of the films had me running around the trees, " said Mahie.
So is running around the trees and singing romantic numbers next on the anvil?
"Why not? I pretty much love conventional Bollywood cinema. And don't forget that I have worked as a heroine in Punjabi films as well. So it is not going to be anything surprisingly different for me to get into a typical heroine mode, " she said.
Mahie, who has been one of the newcomers this year, will now be seen in two more UTV productions "Aage Se Right" and "Paan Singh Tomar". So is she in some kind of contract with the production house?
"No, not at all. I don't have any kind of contract with them. They just saw the rushes of 'Dev D' and signed me on soon after."
Talking about her roles in the two films, Mahie said: "'Aage Se Right' is a comic thriller in which I play a reporter. I would be seen in a semi-glam part though there is a song where people will get to see me in a full-on glam avtar. I am paired opposite Shreyas Talpade in the film."
Directed by Indrajit Nattoji, "Aage Se Right" is set in Mumbai and spans over five days of panic, chaos and mayhem when a sub-inspector loses his gun. This triggers off a series of incidents that gets progressively complicated yet comic and, as the gun travels, it passes through the most unlikely set of characters and links them together.
"Another film of mine is 'Paan Singh Tomar' which is the true epic journey of a talented runner (Irrfan Khan) who turned into a rebel! This film has me in a non-glam role though. Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film's director, has done an excellent job with his characters in the film, " she said.
"Paan Singh Tomar" is about an athlete who gave up his running shoes, became a rebel and wreaked havoc in the Chambal Valley.

Abhay Deol has received a lot of compliments for his performance in Dev D from the critics and movie goers alike and has made the Deol clan prouder.
But not many are aware that his biggest fan at home is his older brother Bobby Deol who just cant stop raving about Abhay these days.
When we were speaking to Bobby about his forthcoming film Ek – The Power of One he seemed all charged up but as soon we removed the topic of Abhay he got more excited and said, “He was simply awesome in Dev D.
But what is more amazing is that he stuck to the kind of films that he has believed in and has taken the step forward. Believe me it takes a lot of guts to do a film like Dev D. Abhay has given a superb film and I am so proud of him.”
Bobby recalls, “We lovingly call Abhay Dimpy at home. Abhay was always multi talented. As a child he used to paint.
He was a good cartoonist as well. It’s really nice that he is doing films appealing to today’s youth. It is nice to see that thanks to the multiplex culture his brand of cinema is being appreciated.”
So will he be willing to make an on-screen jodi with Abhay? “Why not? If we get the right script and our characters are well etched then of course we shall be seen together.
But frankly nothing unique has crossed our paths yet.” Bobby concludes before signing off.
